Conclusion
I am glad that i had chosen Rubens and this painting because looking through all of his other works i have found many others i like. His paintings all give out a certain feeling to them, they let you feel the emotion of everyone and everything depicted in the paintings. what made me become a fan of this painting and his others, were the colors, the colors are just so vivid and make you want to look at the painting and every detail about it and that is exactly what i did. Another reason that made me enjoy Rubens and his work was the subjects he chose to paint. They were all so interesting to me because i enjoy religious and mythological themed art and especially his because of how he painted them. Looking through all of his works online make me wish i could see them in person and full size because from seeing one of his paintings in person i know that seeing them online does not do them justice because a small pixelated picture will definitely not give you the same feeling you would get from seeing it in person. After learning about him i am glad i was able to do this project and be able to learn more about art, especially art that interested me. I now want to find out about as many artist similar to him because i am so intrigued with the style and subjects he chose, this definitely put a spark in me to learn more about art as much as i can so i can discover more artist and artworks that will make me feel the same way that his do.

Peter Paul Rubens
Peter Paul Rubens was born June 28th 1577 in Siegen, Westphalia. his father was sentenced to jail for adultery in Cologne for being lover to Anna of Saxony, Rubens was born after the affair. His father died in 1589 so him and his mother moved to Antwerp where he was raised Catholic. by fourteen he began his apprenticeship with Tobias Verhaeght. after that he studied under Adam van Noort and Otto van Veen . Just like the painting i chose, a lot of his early work were copies of earlier artists works. he spent a couple years of his life in Italy where he saw art by Titian, Veronese, and Tintoretto which had a vast influence on his own art. He also spent some years in Spain where he studied works by Titian and Raphael.he returned to Italy after that for a couple years, then moved back to Antwerp because of the death of his mother. Rubens then died from gout on May 30, 1640.Many of Rubens paintings were that of religious, historical, mythological of hunting subjects. His art was that of a Flemish-Baroque style which had made him popular then and now. Rubens works are worth vast amounts of money, at an auction in 2002 his painting massacre of the innocents sold for 76.2 million dollars
The Calydonian Boar Hunt
It was painted by Peter Paul Rubens around 1611-1612. it was Flemish styled and was an oil on panel painting and it's dimensions are 23 1/4 x 35 1/2 in.
the painting tells the story of Meleager, who was sent to kill the boar which was released by the goddess diana because Meleagers father King Oeneus failed to honor her which is from Ovid's Metamorphosis Rubens painted this after a stay in Italy, where he got the idea to paint this. he saw many statues and sculptures depicting this story and decided to make one of his own. What captivated me about this painting was that you could just feel the intense emotion coming from the men who were hunting the boar, you can just sense it was an intense battle and great victory for the men. Rubens had actually used Da Vinci and Raphaels paintings to help him paint the men on horseback but everything else was of his own mind. This painting was recently "found" and auctioned off in 2006, the reason it was "found" is because it was mistakenly thought that the painting was by a follower of Rubens and not Rubens himself. Scholars believe that Ruben kept the painting after he finished it so he could inspire himself and all the hunting paintings he was going to paint in the future, because this was the one that started them all.
Trip to the Getty Museum
i visited the Getty Museum on a Friday morning, a great start to the weekend. Woke up early and got ready for the 30 minute drive to the Getty with a couple of friends, i had never been there before so i did not know what to expect. We get there, park and take the tram which already made me enjoy the museum because it was like a little roller coaster ride.
we get off and make our way up the stairs and towards the garden and i was in awe, i love nature so much, i love being around plants and trees and was in love with this area. i could have just stayed here and sit under the trees and look at all the different kinds of plants all day and be content but had some art to explore.
we walk around each wing, spending a good amount of time looking at each painting, photograph or sculpture. it was a joy to see so many different types of art in one place. i was more of a fan for the paintings and photographs then the sculptures. while walking around i spot a painting which just catches my eye because i have seen a painting to it similar before. the painting that caught my eye was The Calydonian Boar Hunt by Peter Paul Rubens and it reminded me a lot of an album cover i have seen before
so i decided that would be the painting i would choose for this project and kept walking around and examining the entire museum, after a couple hours we get through everything and make one last trip through the garden before leaving. i had enjoyed the day and museum very much and hope to visit again many times very soon.
